This class covers making a fantasy cloak or cape from start to finish, perfect for Halloween or anytime you want to wander in the woods looking mysterious. You'll design and plan your garment during the first session so you'll have a detailed plan to buy your fabric and notions before the second session. In the remaining sessions, you'll cut, sew, and add finishing details to complete your one-of-a-kind custom garment. Whether you're a complete beginner or already know your way around a sewing machine, we'll have fun learning new skills and creating together.
Email lana@woolandthimble.com with any questions!

This class offers basic instruction in knitting and crochet for people ages 6 to adult. Both skills will be offered at every class, and you can learn either or both.
Come when you can and learn at your own pace. I'll meet you where you're at. Once registered, you can come to whatever session(s) fit your schedule. Nothing fits? Email me at lana@woolandthimble.com and let's figure something out.
Crochet skills taught include (but are not limited to): chaining, single and double crochet, increasing and decreasing, working in both rows and rounds, getting started with reading charts and patterns, and finishing/weaving in ends.
Knitting skills taught include (but are not limited to): casting on and binding off, knit stitch, purl stitch, increasing and decreasing, basic stitch combinations (ribbing, seed stitch), getting started with reading charts and patterns, and finishing/weaving in ends.
You don't need to have yarn, hooks or needles, or a project in mind - I have everything you need to get started. Feel free to bring your own if you have them, though.
In my experience, children younger than 6 may need more attention than I can provide in a group setting, but I'm happy to have a conversation if you think your child is ready. I know from personal experience that finding affordable child care can be a barrier to seeking out this kind of community and self-care, so younger children are welcome to come and play quietly while you and/or a sibling join this drop-in class! My kids have lots of toys. :) No drop-offs, please: adults must remain with children under 9 for the duration of the class.
DATES: Tuesdays 4:00-5:30pm starting September 15, 2026
COST: $30/session or $100 for a four session pass.
SKILL LEVEL: Any
AGES: 6-12
FORMAT: Drop-in class, ongoing throughout the year with short breaks that align with the academic year schedule
This open-ended class offers children ages 6-12 a space to socialize, explore handwork materials, and learn new skills. Your child is welcome to come every week, or drop in occasionally when they have the time. They can feel free to bring their own project, or use materials from the studio. Drop-offs are expected; please pick up promptly at 5:30.
Email me at lana@woolandthimble.com with any questions.
Register as a student with my studio. This form works for any class that uses the drop-in format (currently the after school club and the beginner knit/crochet group).
You'll receive a confirmation email from me within 2 business days. (Not automated, I'm a human!)
Classes are hosted at my home studio in Ferndale, WA. This email will contain the exact address.
Buy a four session drop-in pass for $100 and save $20 compared with the single-session rate. (optional)
Class passes are managed digitally - each time you purchase a pass or use a session, you'll get an email with a confirmation and your remaining balance.
Classes never expire!
One pass can be used for multiple classes by multiple people in the same household. For example, a parent could stop by and use one session from a pass to learn to knit, and their child could come the next day for the after school club.
Let me know when you're planning to stop by! Email lana@woolandthimble.com.
If you don't have a class pass, pay $30 per session at the door. I take cash, check, Venmo, or Apple Cash.
Make something cool!
