I spent my childhood learning to sew, draw, do calligraphy, bead, weave, make friendship bracelets, and more. My room was a mess and I tried everything crafty that I could get my hands on. I was the kid in high school who made a Renaissance dress for Winter Formal, and whose mom finished sewing them into a 1920s style drop-waisted lace dress just as the limo pulled up for prom. As a young adult, I taught myself to knit and crochet. I never stopped playing dress-up, and Halloween is my absolute favorite holiday.
Before becoming a parent, I volunteered in Waldorf handwork classrooms in the San Francisco Bay Area, working with children ages 6-14. Once my own two children were old enough, I trained in San Diego to become a Montessori Elementary guide. In 2017 began leading an upper Elementary community of 9-12 year olds at Meadows Montessori School in Ferndale, WA, and the following year earned my Master of Education.
I stepped back from full-time teaching in 2020 and welcomed a third child into our family in 2023. I now teach handwork skills in the Elementary classrooms at Meadows Montessori School as a weekly volunteer. I also regularly meet up with my closest friends for handwork circles, where we make things, teach each other, get advice, and eat lots of homemade baked goods.
Drawing from all my years of experience working with children and my Montessori training, I am a patient and enthusiastic teacher for people of all ages, observing carefully and breaking down skills to just the right level of difficulty.
